The Unexpected List of Hollywood Elite Who Served in the Military

April 4, 2026 by Jesse Olson

This article was originally published on Pestreporter.com

In the dazzling realm of Hollywood, known for its opulence and allure, there’s a common perception of celebrity tantrums and self-indulgence. However, beneath this facade lies a fascinating truth: many of these stars have a background of courage and sacrifice, having served in the military. Believe it or not, some of Tinseltown’s biggest names have traded their military uniforms for the spotlight, their experiences of risking it all for their country shaping their journey to fame. While some celebrity veterans are easily recognizable, others may surprise you with their unexpected military past.

#1: Elvis Presley

Rank: Specialist (SP5), United States Army

Duration: 2 Years

Drafted in December 1957, Elvis Presley, the chart-topping sensation behind hits like “Hound Dog” and “Heartbreak Hotel,” found himself marching to a different beat as he entered the US Army in March 1958. Despite his skyrocketing fame, Elvis embraced his duty, declaring, “The Army can do anything it wants with me.”

Stationed initially at Fort Hood, Texas, he later found himself serving in Friedberg, Germany, where he crossed paths with his future wife, Priscilla Beaulieu. Honorable discharge followed in 1960, marking the end of an extraordinary chapter in the life of America’s rock and roll icon.
