“It’s as Backawards as Can Be”: Things in American Culture That Make No Sense to the Rest of the World

Another person outside of the US pointed out how the lack of social safety net programs in America requires some people to work themselves to the bone. There are plenty of people in the US who have to work two full-time jobs in order to pay the bills and survive.

How depressing is it that one full-time job doesn’t pay enough to keep up with the cost of living? Another weird thing that goes hand-in-hand with low pay is American tipping culture. So many people are flabbergasted that companies pay their service workers below a living wage because of potential tip wages. How about we just pay people a living wage? The tips should be extra gravy!
