#45: Main Character Syndrome
I remember the first time I heard someone say “You are not the protagonist of reality” and it blew my mind. It’s something that sounds like it should be so obvious—with billions of people in this world, of course you’re not the main character—but somehow it’s a trap a lot of us slip into.
It’s totally understandable, though; we experience the world through the lens of our own experiences, so of course everything we encounter is going to tie into those experiences. So if you don’t challenge yourself to broaden your horizons, you can fall into the trap of unconsciously thinking that your experience is all that matters. Go out, learn about new places, meet new people, be a real person in the real world. It’ll change your life.
